How does everyone feel about Forceful/Rape Scenes in Yaoi

lululove August 16, 2018 10:49 pm

I feel like this is a pretty big debate within the Yaoi Reader Community and personally i don't feel that it's a big deal since the stories are fiction and plus i've read so much Yaoi that i'm almost immune to reading those kinds of scenes. The reason why i wanted to make this post was because im always seeing so much conflict on the Manhwa Hosik's Story (BTW Great Read! http://www.mangago.me/read-manga/hosik_s_story/ ) personally at first I thought it wasn't rape its was just one of those cliche uke gets drunk and have smex with the seme type of deals but a lot of people feel a way about it so i was wonder how's everybody's thoughts

Now Granted! if any of those scene were to happen in real life F**K NO that's RAPE AND IM NOT FOR THAT! just wanted to make that clear(〜 ̄△ ̄)〜

The thing is. It wasn't rape. In the raws they explain what happened. But people still wont shut up

The term "because it's fiction" in general irks me.

Well that's what these story's are? if writers wanted to make manga based on a true story it would of said so in the beginning and the audience or reader would know that

Just because it's fiction doesn't mean it can't be shitty. Although this work may essentially be exempt from solid rationality (e.g. male pregnancy, romanticized rape), that doesn't mean one is forbidden from interpretting it logically. In fact, fiction is MEANT to be interpretted logically; you don't see gibberish selling. An author's job is to make a story that is believable, whether or not it is strictly grounded in reality. But if you don't think it's rape or that it matters, that's cool I guess. But it is to me. And brushing over it is really just bad storytelling, as it defeats the purpose of even including it in the first place.

How the term is used irks me. Most of the time it's used to shut someone up, in this case I'm not really talking about rape debates anymore. Just the term irks me. I always thought any idea, fictional or non-fictional, could be critiqued. But not on mangago, I guess.

Hmm that's a different way of seeing things Thanks for your input! (●'◡'●)ノ personally i dont think it matter because that defeat the purpose of creative freedom even though having those kind of scenes are morally wrong not everybody has the same version in a story as the author maybe i'm too open minded and don't think too hard about those kinds of scene in a manga/manhwa but restricting an author to only tell a story to appease others doesn't seem right either

No problem! I think we're all open to interpreting something however we want, regardless of what the author intended or what anyone else thinks. If it adds to the story in an interesting way, I'm cool with anything.
