Here's my problem with the uke from the first story

His personality is pretty abrasive, but that alone isn't necessarily bad. But is that how he would treat a girlfriend? If the answer is no, then wouldn't he be constantly wearing a mask of being nice while he was with a girl? A mask that will eventually slip. So, if he is always playing nice and then suddenly becomes abrasive, he'd not have much luck keeping a woman around. If a woman wouldn't put up with that behaviour, why should a man be expected to? Now, here is my problem with the tsundere uke character trope. I don't think I have ever read a manga with a tsundere seme... ever. So, for the "woman's role" it is acceptable for the character to be abrasive, disinterested, frigid, verbally and physically borderline abusive, fickle, indecisive and just generally mean and difficult. Or, basically, the "bitchy girlfriend". Yet this trope is not common among the characters in the "male role". Am I the only one who sees the sexism and gender stereotypes in the tsundere uke trope? It kind of screams that women can accept bitchyness in women/uke, but would never accept the same traits in men/seme. Maybe my opinion would be clearer if I said that female readers can accept the character they relate to being a bitch, but not the male role characters - or "It's okay if I act like a bitch, but if my boyfriend acted that way, it is unacceptable." I guess I just don't, personally, believe this kind of personality is acceptable in either women or men, but if it's going to be okay in one, it should be okay in both.

If anyone knows of any manga, shoujo or yaoi, where the tsundere personality is attributed to the male role holding character (in shoujo the boyfriend is tsundere, in yaoi the seme is tsundere - seke/switch characters don't count), could you please let me know what those titles are? If they exist, I'd be curious to see how that dynamic is depicted.

Shinichi Chiaki from Nodame Cantabile, ever heard of fruits Basket? Kyo is a classic Tsundere. Kyouya from Wolf girl and black prince. Good Morning Call. Inuyasha. Check out Ashita wa Docchi Da, Katekyo, Yoru To Asa No Uta, Renai Paradox, Chuchun Ga Chun, etc. There's honestly no shortage of Taundere dudes that penetrate someone. In most Shojo period, the dude is the Tsundere.

I can't believe that anyone would argue otherwise. And the couple in this manga weren't even dating. They were literally just messing around and the seme didn't even try to seriously talk to the dude about their relationship in the beginning. Women who are anywhere near abrasive, disinterested, frigid, verbally and physically borderline abusive, fickle, indecisive and just generally mean, generally get sh*t save for a few really popular ones so I don't understand any of your comment.

Fair enough. This is just how this particular story struck me.

Thank you though for the recommendations. I'll update my comment at a later date after I have gone through them and compared and contrasted. I appreciate your input and I look forward to learning something new.

Ive always hated this personality weather that be boy, girl, fictional or in real life. they are rude and clearly not thinking about how the other people feel. ┑( ̄Д ̄)┍

I agree. Though I would never deny a person their right to their own personality, this is one I try not to associate with personally.

Well, I have taken the time to do the research and I can't agree with your opinion, especially regarding the yaoi manga you mentioned. I'd be happy to go into detail, but I warn you, it will be long and involved. The short version is that none of the seme in the manga you mentioned are actually tsundere. One is a sadist, not a tsundere. One is in denial about his sexuality, not a tsundere and the last is shy and careful, but never tsundere. If you want to know the details, let me know. However, I got the feeling that you just wanted to voice and opposing opinion without actually discussing or debating it. Either way, I don't care. I learned something and for that I am grateful.

From a gay guy's perspective, he's pretty awful and the relationship is not fun to read. A relationship should have respect, but when a hardcore tsundere is either role in a yaoi manga, or really any manga in general, it seems like that respect is missing. Yeah, you can be shy and cover it up with anger. But when you can't get past that, or you're being a shitty partner and saying/doing these hurtful things, that's when the tsundere trope becomes really painful and frustrating to read. But alas, it's yaoi, so reality doesn't matter.

I like your attitude regarding yaoi. LOL Getting butt-hurt over yaoi tropes is like getting butt-hurt over porn. Everyone has something that turns their crank even if it freezes mine cold, it isn't my place to deny anyone the things they enjoy. I also agree with your assessment of the story and the tsundere personality. This story was painful to read and I've known my fair share of tsundere types... but I usually call them bitches and avoid them as much as humanly possible.

I was kind of hesitant reading this one after reading the summary. Then I read this comment and got curious and now I understand. I do not understand tsundere ukes, nor would I understand a tsundere seme either. I am not a bitchy female, but I do have my bitchy moments. So I really do not relate to tsunderes and they piss me off...With that said I do not like really wimpy ukes either...rants done...Maybe I should not right a comment after reading a manga that irritated me...lol
