Ok so I read it again, I think it’s exactly what you interpreted, Lawrence had PROBABLY died from the wine. BUT chapter 4 is not the ending, there are two more chapters but you have to pay for it.
Also there were a lot of historical and Chinese names used in the raws, it is too advanced for me (still trying to learn, except they don’t teach history terms in my classes) but I’m pretty sure that he drank the (poison?) wine in our mc’s stead because Lawerence says that he believes that he and mc will be able to conquer this hardship just like the maze.

Thank you that helped a lot. I hope it is such a fake poison as in Romeo and Juliet. I don't want Lawrence or any of them them to die. How can the author write a continuation just to kill the main characters, it would be so heartless.
