Long story short, Edna is the daughter of the previous King and his first queen. However, since he was a pervert and a good for nothing the queen decided to tell everyone that Edna was a boy in order to protect her. Eli, the husband of Edna, was the first born son of a family with great power. A long time ago, this family fought against another family for the throne but lost. Eli's father was dead seat on taking the throne that should belong to his family since a long time ago and groomed Eli to become the perfect King. He was planning to create a revolt and put his son on the throne. However, Eli slowly came to hate is father, especially since his mother basically committed suicide because of him. Moreover, he didn't want to take the crown at all. And so, he revolted both against his father and the King and make his little brother the King instead. The rest his history. He decided to not keep his real name and became a simple commoner. Since his little bother wanted him to stay close to him (they have a good relationship) he still named him duke and gave him a territory to manage. Eli the meet Edna and married her. Clear enough?
