★EXPLAINATION★
From my understanding , the plant is like Is feelings or smthg , and Izumi had been feeling so down that he has gone withered as in plants , it's like he is depress or smthg... Well it's kind of like a fantasy in the story that chouno mentioned about for mammals , they been sad deeply that their fur changes colour , so it kind of applies to Izumi that he had been depress because of Yoshiaki ... Then he lost his memory might be because of excessive depression (?) Following the hair changes colour... And his hair colour started to change back maybe because the reason for him to be depress has gone because Izumi try to convey his feelings (?) (〜 ̄△ ̄)〜

#well this is what I understand , I'm sorry if u find it hard to understand what I said

I felt like I reasoned it the same way. But, I know that Izumi was lonely and shocked from depression. Yoshiaki was going through some depression and pulling away from his love. They both were exhausting each other out until the end and finally make up. There was so much tension and love around them that they did more self-thinking rather than actually communicating. The flower talk through it all was nice though and all the blooming flowers was beautiful, along with their love. Most of all, that shock from Izumi's depression really surprised and I almost thought that it would've happened again in this story. Luckily, it only happened once.
