There's no overaching storyline in an anthology. o: It's just a bunch of stories based on the swords found in the game Touken Ranbu. Daily life and all that.

I guess the gist is that these are all personfications of famous swords who were summoned by the saniwa/their new master to fight beasts that threaten to change the future/past of Japan. Whenever they're not out fighting, they stay in this citadel area and do chores or train! Some of the inside jokes are basically japanese history stuff based on the previous wielder of the swords. For example, the warlord Nobunaga Oda, the shinsengumi squad, Ryoma Sakamoto, etc.
