There's so much to say

First of all: He WANTED to be a girl.

He didn't stay as a girl just because "a man", but because He wanted to. He can't accept himself liking being a girl, because he is supposed to be manly. He is pressured by his father, society and himself to be a guy and felt like a failure.

That's why being loved by Takeru was important for him accepting that part of himself. He had an excuse to live as a girl.

This wasn't a yaoi from the start, so I don't understand why so many fujoshis are here complaining. It was rather a funny, cool and sweet manga.

All character were so funny and likeable in his own way! even Yamada HAHA

So the MC is transsexual? Or did he become a girl to be able to be more easily (be socially accepted) with the person he loves and be able to openly show his female tastes?
I understand your point, but I think the manga failed to show the resolution of the protagonist, and feels more that the protagonist wants to meet the expectations of society have imposed on him, and he has given up on being a man, so he will be a woman since it is more convenient for him.
And I don´t like the description of the "femininity" and "maculinity" of this manga, only it has been sexually contextualized, as if it is the only thing of being a man or a woman.
And by the way, I've read your other comments, and I think you should respect more the opinion of other people (I don´t say that you have to give them the reason), it does not matter if those people are fujoshis or only read classic literature, that doesn´t devalue their opinion as people and readers, if you are going to be against their opinion, write them an argumentative criticism, not a "Let me guess... Fujoshi or LGBT lobby, right?".
    That is lack of respect.

It is lack of respect, I agree, I'm sorry because I don't care.
So feed up with those. They only see things within their narrow point of view, judging dramaticaly in their standards, imposing their morals.
It's ok for a social movement, but not for art. When you read something like this you have to put apart your political views and savor the plot line.

I Studied Literature as a carrer and was all my life studying art. It's despicable how something that supported diversity through all history, now is attacked by that same diversity. Because "I don't like how they portrayed that gay guy, it was so stereotypical. It's discrimination!" or things like that.

    Anyawy, returning to the plot:

MC would be transgender (the term "transexual" is for already operated people, at least in my natal lenguage and country). This is quite peculiar story; normally in yaoi is as you say "to be with the man I like", but here it's described really clear how He wants to be a woman. His pursuit of his own identity is beautifully portrayed, I have to say.

I don't even understand why you said "fail to show", when more than half of the manga is about him exploring that side of him, even when the one he loved went away or start dating his friend.

We have to understand this manga as a multidirectional story. Every character has his protagonism and is important for the plot. that guy (the one MC loves) was the one connecting all stories together. It's not only about MC being transgender or the love story of MC. The actual point of this manga is about how hurtful and unfulfilling life is (and love). It's a romantization of suffering, wich is part of life. It touches so many meaningful and terrible things, but even so "life go on".

This was a common theme in Japanese literature around 50's If I remember correctly, that's why this manga has this awesome vintage aura.

So, MC being in love with him is the way He conects with the others, but not his main characteristic. As being in love with this man wasn't the main characteristic of the girl who envelope; her problem was she was steril and she can't live with that. Both MC and that girl are using -the guy- to wrap his own feelings about themselves. It's the same for the other characters aswell.

I'd gladly ask you throw away your opinions in femininity and masculinity, because... it doesn't care. This manga isn't propaganda, it's not mean to be read as a indoctrination, it's not a child's tale to show them about diversity. It's a grown ups manga about life.
As it is, the only thing that matters is what the characters think about those terms.

At the end, MC ends up actually adopting a "third option" aside of what would you considere cis, being an androgynous that lives as a man. BUT, at the end, it doesn't matters. Because it's not about what ettiquete you put on it: It's about what he wants in life (All together, because identity is more than your sexual orientation and gender).

And He decides live as a man because that's what He wants. He look at all his options and decided for himself what He wanted to be and do. It's not like He goes saying: "Those trasvesties from that bar should live as a man aswell!". Because, again, it's not propaganda. It's a personal desition that MUST be respected.

I need to add that He's not living on our country, so the cultural appreciation is obviously different from us. And there's nothing wrong with that, because art is supposed to portray everything in the world, even what we don't like.

In my opinion, it should matter to you, since discrimination, hatred for hate, wars, and many more horrible things started and begin today, with a: "I don´t care about your opinion or your feelings".
And the only one who is imposing his morals here and now is you.
You may have studied, and see things differently, but that doesn´t give you the right to say that someone's opinion is worthless according to their personal tastes, because that is directly discrimination. And it is not as if this person was directly against transsexuality, simply opined that he or she would have liked the story to end differently, Or is it that you can not comment on how you would have liked it to end according to you?
And honestly, I don´t care if you're right, and the prtagonist is transsexual (Which by the way, I think this manga doesn´t show transsexuality (Feeling in a different gender from what is biologically your body and fighting for it) the most realistic way or correct, but that is already a personal opinion) or not, there are many who simply didn´t like that the protagonist after being forced, in the end decided to stay as a woman (For me, your tastes and your gender have nothing to do, a girl may like things that supposedly like the boys and still be a girl, while there may be a guy who likes things that normally like to a boy, but still he feel like a girl).
For your information, since I see that you are putting this manga as if it were a masterpiece which I don´t think it is, but I don´t say it is a bad manga, it has good characters, good art but basically this story can be considered cliche, since all the stories that a boy becomes a girl, are that after him playing as a "girl", having sexy moments, and falling in love with a boy (Normally childhood best friend), the protagonist finally decides to remain a "girl" to be with the person that "her" love, plus he now enjoy being a girl.
It's not something new, and most of it isn´t about being transsexual, but rather about plot convenience, and because it's sexier that way (I think there's a fetish about having sexy moments with a woman who until recently was a man, and he's embarrassed and confused with the whole situation).
I can also give the benefit of exception to this manga (At least had more plot than other cliches), and say that the protagonist was from the beginning a transsexual denied, trying to meet the expectations of his family and society (Which by the way, both the family as a society, in this manga, were in favor of him becoming a girl, because he was more cute and sexy in this way), and that he really loved his childhood friend, and the girl who he thought he liked her was her ideal of femininity, since he or she was always unconsciously wanting to be a woman, and after a lot of "internal exploration" (Basically, spend embarrassing and sexy moments with his or her friends), he realizes that he likes cute things, and be treated cute, and that it is more convenient to be a girl for it, so end...
What I don´t like, is that the manga made it clear that everyone loved the protagonist, and would continue to love him the same even if he decided became a woman or just be a man who liked feminine things, but the protagonist always took it as that he or she had no choice, and had to meet the expectations of everyone and society in some way or another.
I'll be honest, more than the protagonist being transsexual, it seemed to me that he or she was forced to meet the new expectations imposed.
Not to mention the whole amount of unnecessary eroticism added, that was pure fanservice.
Honestly, I would have accepted more the end, if she had decided to stay with her male body, but decided to live as a girl, still continue with her boyfriend, and strive to be accepted by society as a girl, I would have felt more realistic and determined, instead of convenient and forced.
But that is my opinion, and I may seem wrong to you, but that doesn´t entitle you to despise me, just as I tolerate and respect your opinion.
It is the minimum of basic respect that a decent person should have.

    LushiferianII June 11, 2019 9:31 am

    sigh...

Likes and opinions are that. Facts are facts.
Art obey some parameters, and an artwork can be good even if you don't personally like it or can be bad even if you like it.

So, that's all. This is a good manga, an excellent manga I dare to say. You didn't understand it. A LOT of people didn't understand it. Well, ok, a lot of people didn't understood ballet too and still is the basis to any professional dancer.

I won't enlarge this anymore, you keep just repeating and it's obviously this won't go anywhere.

    NekoLoka June 11, 2019 6:14 pm

It seems to me that you only understand and read from my opinion what is best for you.
I never said it was a bad manga, in my comment I said that the art and the characters were the best of the manga, I just didn´t like how they developed the story and the ending.
And you are arrogant, to never try to understand the point of view of other people, you don´t have to give me the reason or yield your point of view, just accept that there are people with different tastes, and simply not because they don´t understand it or are intellectually inferior to you, if not because they are different from you and say different things.
    That is called tolerance.
A tip, if you think that you're always right without bothering to understand other people, it will go bad for you in socializing in your life.
    Good luck.

I agree!! (๑•ㅂ•)و✧ I wish he chose to be a guy who liked cute things and who also happened to be in love with another guy. Or maybe being gender fluid or androgynous. *sigh* i like this manga too but the ending just wasn’t satisfying

I honestly put a lot of expectations in this manga as it seemed like they would do something interesting and "right" with the Gender Bender genre, because most always use that genre for simple storylines, lots of fanservice, offensive biases, and basically porn.
And perhaps this manga isn´t porn (Although the fanservice touched that line many times), but it has a cliche and disappoint outcome.
    I also expected something more.

I agree! After rereading this manga I felt like a lot of the gender norms imposed were over-simplified. The author might’ve been doing a critique on them, but they felt more like social rules that were imposed on the MC. Liking sweets is girly? (Which, btw, is a trope I’ve seen so much in manga and I’ll never understand why). I think the author missed a huge opportunity to show how stupid those gender norms are, and how you can be “cute” and “girly” but still be a guy, and vice-versa. They might’ve showed it in the side characters, but not in Mizuki.
ALSO, can we acknowledge how creepy and r*pey this manga is? The dad? The boys at her school? Even the other girls molesting her?? Maybe I read the wrong genre but damn am I tired of seeing assault depicted as something light-hearted and funny. ┑( ̄Д ̄)┍
