Thats what I thought too, if he knew about Toki feeling un happy with the marriage why didn’t he say anything for 3 years???? 3 years is a long time.

He didn't REALISE realise until his wedding. What was he gonna do? Dump his bride at the alter and run off with his friend? He suckered up and tried to be a good husband and friend, hoping that his friend would find a better match. But his wife ran away and the friend/his love stepped in as the second parent.
