The way I look at it is a pedophile has sexual attraction to children and a lolicon simply finds them cute/soothing in the same way some people like kittens and puppies or they want to protect the lolli innocence therefore sexual thought towards them isn't possible.
But most lolicons I’ve known of would literally watch hentai of them or just straight up sexualize them, plus the word loli came from this book about a pedophile. people shouldn’t normalize the word loli that shits not right. Just say “you find kids cute” but don’t be weird about it and give your self a specific name for it
