I was just thinking, since the yaoi/bl industry sells well in japan and have a large demographic that will continue buying them (fujoshi/fudanshi) do you think it affect how homosexuality is seen there??? Because from what i know,it is still something that is largely not accepted and even in some yaois they show that homosexuality is something that is still uncommon or does the existence of yaoi in japan doesn't really correlate to actual homosexuals and is there some fudanshi or fujoshi that actually in real life is against homosexuals?? just a thought

No reading and enjoying yaoi among heterosexual women has no correlation to acceptance of male homosexuality...and even if it did for Japanese, Korean, and Chinese culture...women don't have the power to influence that kind of change. Remember yaoi does NOT accurately depict gay relationships it is a vehicle for woen to experience sex vicariously thru men who won't be seen as sluts for enjoying sex

I've heard this one podcast she said that she's so straight she can only watch gay porn. What I'm trying to say here I think it works differently for every people.

A lot of people see it just as fantasy (and that it should stay that way). I've seen few authors refer to gays as "BL in real life" lol. Shows you that even authors have a long way to go.
Also yaoi is not that big compared to other genres.

Also Japan is ruled by grumpy old men who are usually the most anti gay. It would help more if gays are showed as normal/regular people in more popular media

From what I understand, Japan just ignores it. They accept it as a way to make money and produce jobs but they have a group cultural mindset. And being gay means women don't get married and domesticated, and obviously no babies. Ironically, Japan strives so hard for work success, even straight men are choosing not to get married too. Good culture but very contradictory behavior too.

Manga industry in Japan is HUGE, so even the best selling BL is nowhere near the top manga in other genres. BL is definitely not well presented in mainstream media, and it’s pretty much a niche market.
