Yeah, I feel the author picked a poor example to use for that. Three adult men beating on a child is likely going to kill or severely injure the kid. "Don't intervene with other people's business" doesn't trump the human race's instinctual moral duty to protect kids.
I understand the "if you don't know what's happening don't interfere", but if I see a child getting beaten up I can't just watch. Yeah maybe he was a thief, but they just needed to handle him to the guards ┑(￣Д ￣)┍
