cos she didnt know she can change it so drastically. She wasnt planning on making Caesar love her. Never did anything romantic, just acted as kids. She was playing nice just to leave with her head intact. Furthermore, she read the book as an outsider and didnt know the details why Caesar chose Gracie originally. So she jut assume that caesar chose her because the King arranged marriage for him and that he wants to have a powerful wife to be emperor. And when the King, even the country wants her to divorce or she'll be executed, she thought the story was just the same and she need to Yeet out of there. So only when Caesar confessed, which is drastically different from the story, She finally realised that the story changed. So everything would have worked out faster if Caesar get to confess earlier.
