its really not confusing once you read all the chapters. original antoinette died, her brother is taking her place (albert). she was married to the goofy looking mask guy (the dauphin), so albert-antoinette is his acting wife, soon to be queen. Bastien (blonde long dude) is being controlled by her after she turned him into a mort-vivian. Right now the religious group, the dauphin, and a mysterious group (napoleon, who seems to have control over mort-vivians as well) are after the gems (presumably to recreate the jewelry piece to revive joan of arc).
