Dude, he got off way too lightly. Only 200,000 yen (~2000 USD) fine and a 6 month suspension from Shounen Jump. Even I could pay that off and I'm a student ( not saying that it 2k isn't a lot but if even I could accumulate the money as a student then the amount is extremely small, especially for how large the crime is).
So basically, he was barely punished at all.

It's still in the past man. His rep is ruined.... hell be paying for what he did for the rest of his life. Japan is different from the US. They actually ostracize criminals way more than we do. They never forget shit. Hardly ever forgive too.

Not true at all, read an article recently about other manga authors still having respect for him. It's pretty much as if nothing ever happened. And supporting him after all of this just feels wrong. Of course you can separate work from his personal life, out of respect for his wife and other whom worked on this masterpiece. But it is also natural that people are disgusted. This horrible subject is something we must talk about even if it does disturb our manga experience. And yeah, shockingly enough people do forget these things and even forgive

I grew up watching Rurouni Kenshin. Watsuki is definitely a big name and talent in the manga industry and he mentored some of the biggest names out there like Oda (One Piece). No one can take that away from him. However, he fucked up. He's a pedophile my guy. As a consumer, he supports human/sex trafficking of children and rape of minors. He didn't even get proper punishment for it due to his accomplishments. In developed countries, we're supposed to all be equal under the law. A measly 2 grand for a wealthy man such as himself is not enough. The manga industry isn't even seriously reprimanding him and kicking him to the curb. They're just treating it like a mistake and moving on when it's a real serious issue. Pedophilia is one of the most serious crimes out there and the law and the industry are basically giving him the thumbs up. That's fucked up. It's not fans tarnishing Rurouni Kenshin. This man did it himself. Actions have consequences. I'm honestly angry that something that was a big part of my childhood was tainted with pedophilia.
