I think some people are misunderstanding Kaji's character here. Kaji is infatuated with Kobayakawa, and the latter is is also harbouring deep feelings for the sensei, which the seme is WELL AWARE OF. And told him, multiple times to confess to him, so that they can make it official. However Kobayakawa, maybe due to his countryside upbringing or his soft timid nature, he could not confess openly, despite having the fact being right under his nose. I don't blame either of the two characters, they are just not very open to each other initially. But keep on reading the sequels, the seme and uke are really loving and passionate towards each other. It's really well etched out.
