Welp...I'm dropping this series then. I don't read manga just to see pure misery and destruction. I get that this is what would realistically happen in such a situation. The MC is powerful, but the established forces would of course realistically have even more powerful people. He was only trained/experimented on to be a super soldier after all, not a top dog. But yea...the MC constantly just losing everyone and the evil force constantly getting victories or getting away with what they do isn't what I read manga for. ^^;;
Oh, wow, this has a manga? lol For those worried about harem.., well, that doesnt really happen until 400+ (WN/LN) chapters in, and its not like he gets to enjoy it. All of his potential love interest are Yanderes. ALL. This is a VERY depressing series. Do not read this unless you can tolerate it or enjoy it. This is even more depressing than the Dragon egg series. Everything he holds dear will be constantly snatched away from him. You will hate the church in this series, esp. when you learn the petty reason that god became monomaniacal, monotheistic, and treat all nonbelievers literally like slaves. This god reminds me of Warhammer 40k, and not in a good way.
Technically, there is no power creep in this series. The MC & Co. is weak. At the last chapters I was able to look up(700+?), he has not won against any of the top 12 (there was one at chp. 480+, but that was for important plot reasons)antagonists.
If you are looking for a edge lord series, this might be it, or it might not. Important people will die in droves in this series, including a litany of named characters. There is a joke that people say about this series, "Oh, she got a name, so the author is trying to make her death/demise more tragic". The only people that dont die are people that are necessary for the plot structure, or they are needed to move the story forward.
Yaoi or trap fans rejoice! There is a Hideyoshi character named Simon in this series, a delicate, frail, but very good looking male elf who is often attacked in a public bath house in this series. He is very attached to the MC, and they even shared a VERY intimate moment together.
After writing all that, I just noticed the manga skipped 150 chpts of WN to get to the current events of manga...
