Summary for those who don't get it

The Enigma is the "purest" alpha form one can take. It is presumably referred to as the "purest" simply due to its "god-like" powers, such as having the ability to alter one's sex into either an alpha, beta or omega.

As absurd as it may sound, this could have its pros. e.g. an enigma can be used to maintain balance in the population distribution of the alphas, betas and omegas. The omega population is already abnormally low, further deterioration can lead to extinction of both omega and alphas and ultimately the extinction of the omegaverse. This, therefore, means the omega population needs to be increased hence the enigma turns some special individuals into omegas... orrrr it could just act as a powerful being who punishes people they dislike- sort of like a ruler of the omegaverse

Summary of the MCs' backstories:

The orphanage was actually a lab funded for by rich alphas who wanted to create the "purest" alpha a.k.a enigma

The children of that orphanage were children of omegas hence why they were treated like trash.

Tsukasa was the first child that succeeded in turning into an alpha. He was deemed the first successful "pure alpha" and was hence adopted by the head of the Kuga family.

...although it is not known if Tsukasa became an enigma or he just converted into an alpha (because enigmas don't respond to pheromones but Tsukasa seems to)...

the reason for rich alphas wanting to get enigmas may be similar to reason the Father of the Kuga Family adopted Tsukasa. The reason being that the father wanted his family name to be inherited by Tsukasa who was believed to have achieved god-like and top-tier powers. This increases the status and dignity of the family.

The experiment only had 2 survivors- Tsukasa and that Enigma guy
the other children died.
