no, no... it has nothing to do with chinese zodiac. In Japan, school year starts in April and end in March. So an April student means a student who was born in April, and March are students who are born in March. They would all be in the same school year... even though one was born in 2014 and the other 2015.
Funnily enough, in my country our school years starts on January and ends on December =) so there's no confusion about birth date and school year and age.

that was sweet.... but i don't get the April student/March student thing.... and it took me a while to understand that 'i'm a whole cycle away from him' thing, i think he means the 12 year cycle of Chinese zodiac.........
