I have no idea, I simultaneously hate the shallow writing, yet can't stop reading. Basically, trashy novels fulfil some dark desire in our conciousness. Otherwise they wouldn't be popular.
A lot of the classic Western romance novels have these themes too. (beyond rich guy, rape, children etc.)
Ikr. This is absolutely trashy, but unfortunately a guilty pleasure I really want to see Qing Ruan's reaction to finding out that her rapist is Huwai Lin. Or how Ruan takes care of her son. Another is her triumph over her ex bestfriend and those in the industry that want to see Ruan fall
What is really disturbing about this is that Huwai Lin is her rapist and he knows that she doesn't know its him and he wants to be around her. Also her ex bestfriend is trying to ruin her because Qing Ruan is better than her at acting and she's doing the most heinous things to get Quin Ruan out of the spotlight. What is it with Chinese manwhuas having girls fall in love with their rapist and having every jealous bitch(no other way to describe them) under the sun hate the female leads
