Reading the comments I see I am on my own in hating this story....
I don't care what happened at the end i was so upset as soon as we find out about his friend?
It's so obvious that he's a replacement, I mean when he's holding the violin for the first time, he just randomly starts talking to his friend for a second.... anyway I hate it :( sorry

He was smitten with Kazuki way before he learned his situation. If Kazuki was just a replacement for his friend, he'd treat Kazuki only as a friend and help him to become a pro violinist by sponsoring for him, etc. but Kazuki means a lot more to him than that. They'll stay lovers regardless of Kazuki's choice of profession.

You have a right to get mad over that. I did too but as I read more,it's obvious that Kido cherished Kazuki so much and he even went to great length to get the violin for him.
I'm sure with his friend,it had more to do with playing the violin and there's interest, alright but I didn't sense love in it.
Like Kido in his thoughts, even if his friend didn't die and he met Kazuki,he would still want Kazuki that much. It's fate that he's with Kazuki.
Sorry if I blah blah too much,I just want to say that this is not a bad manga,it's a good read and even better,I think, since it could hit us on the spot. Happy reading :)

To be quite I agree more with the first person, I think what would have made it clearer, if he wasn't a replacement is when he actually starts to think he likes him because out of all his monologue the monologue seems so dang vague especially in the beginning when he first approached him, but it wasn't that bad of a story so I don't completely agree at the same time

I didn't see the first person mention kazuki's situation, I think it's the whole ordeal about kazukis fingers, which he instantly compared.to his friends which he said out loud. It would hurt anyone to be compared and/or loved in the memory of someone else and not themselves, it makes a person feel like they are not loved, and to be quite honest the owner telling kazuki that it doesn't matter if he was compared to someone else makes it feel like kazuki had no right to feel the way be felt. Kazukis reaction was completely normal, he had a a good reason to be honest and telling him that it doesn't matter simply makes it seem like kazuki is in the wrong about his own feelings. Just my two cents though.
