What is your unpopular opinion about a BL?

June March 27, 2020 8:33 am

I believe people with unpopular opinions should be allowed to voice their thoughts! My hot take is that a lot of comics rely too heavily in tropes sometimes, relying on good art or fanservice (the lusty kind). This just frustrates me sometimes bc I get invested in comics and hate a comic settles on overdone yaoi tropes when they had so much potential to have a different fresh perspective. Still, I HIGHLY respect artists and authors for their courage and creativity to make their own story!!! But I just don't want comics to settle and to instead keep improving, making comics that make me punch my pillow in joy!!! Idk that's my TedTalk and you're free to disagree

Yesss, overdone tropes just make the story so unappealing. One trope I'm tired of is the concept of an uke and seme. The bottom is always submissive and timid while the top is always dominate. Those roles are almost never switched and yaoi.

Really? I've seen a good amount of assertive uke's. Personally, I'm not too put off by this personality trope unless it's so extreme that the situation just seems dumb and it feel alike border line rape (uke says "no...but..."). I do admit though that overly timid ukes are some of the most boring characters (without there being a good reason for their shyness like trauma, disorder, etc.)

I definitely I agree with he ratings hot take! I think many are boosted up bc the fanservice. I disagree about the webtoons comic though because some of the most memorable and interesting comics I've read have been webtoons! Maybe because they try less hard to have distinctive personalities and are more subtle / grounded in reality, they seem more similar?

very true-- but may i recommend "Hate Mate"? It is a bl webtoon but the characters feel real, untroped, it has a realistic story and feel and it's fucking hilarious. And in manga... the troping and stereotypes aren't much better lol

Are you talking about the one i recommended?? because it's definitely NOT omegaverse... i hate omegaverse too lol. I don't see how it being colored would have anything to do with the cringe level... the art, story, humor and characters are good, that's why i recommended it. the story isn't focused on sex. and it's NOT OMEGAVERSE.. i just wanted to share something i thought was worth reading T-T

Σ( ̄□ ̄||)oh, I just understood why you thought it was omegaverse... lol
the title is referring to the main characters being roommates, not omegaverse
