I think it’s because both Alexei and Aleksandr have the same Russian root “Alex”
Sasha is only a short version of Aleksandr
But "Alex" isn't the diminutive of Alexei either ╮(￣▽￣)╭

"Alex".... would "Sasha" not be more fitting for a Russian name of Aleksandr? "Calder" is also a bit iffy, if the Duke is English.
