So the first chapter was really wird and seemed to take on pedophilia way to lightly... But it changed really quickly. I liked how the relationship developed. It wasn't clear cut like many other stories. And I was left wondering at many turns about the friednship/love thing. I cried at the end... And about the cheating: he cheated once. It almost seemed out of pity but also to see if he could do it with a woman. Of course it's not okay but it's not the worst thing in the world. (Honestly, treating your partner badly in a relationship is way worse than cheating once) Then she ends up pregnant. As you can see later on in japan at that time growing up without a father is really hard and there is a lot of malicious gossip. You can see how happy the mother looks when he registered the son in his family register. So there is unbeleivable pressure on him to take responsibility for the child. Just remember it is set in a time and place where he is even afraid to come out to his own son (!). That is how difficult it was to live "out and proud"...
