I think it wasn't premeditated. The one who proposed to go to the lake was Saryu. The boys just didn't try to save him when Saryu fell. But it wasn't just an accident because they choose no to move.

if you don't get it, yugi and suu brought saryu to the lake. saryu broke the ice and drowned, yugi and suu didn't do anything to save him.
