So this is what I’m getting from reading the chapters over. When Ren said he was going to say just kidding it was if kyoko didn’t return his feelings but seeing she understands and feels the same way he whole heartedly admits he likes her but she also understands that he’s not in a place for that kind of relationship and neither is she so even tho he said he wanted to be her boyfriend he can’t of as yet.
I might be missing more but it was confusing the first read.
