I found my source on Xia Da's contract ending and the consequences: https://web.archive.org/web/20171007155014/ http://unable-or-unwilling.tumblr.com:80/post/164886940503/xia-das-return-2917
Here's the drama's trailer if interested. Haven't seen it yet, but looks like it's being released this year.

What a shame the manga will never be finished.
Saw the trailer, looks cool, hope this doesn't come out wrong but the actress doesn't look very asian? And she's supposed to be very petite but maybe those are not very important details...? It difficult to have an adaptation work but lets see how it goes
I get what you mean, the actress (Dilraba Dilmurat) isn't what you'd typically imagine when you think East Asian. But she's a perfect fit for the role, considering she's of actual Uyghur descent (which was the ethnicity of Chang ge's mother. Uyghurs are from Western China. They're mostly Muslim, which are, you know, being put into "relearning camps" aka concentration camps since Islam = terrorism according to the Chinese gov.)
It's not easy to see on film, when the actors aren't lined up beside each other from a straight angle, but I'd say Dilraba is the petite sort. Just look at this image of her beside other actors -->

Seems like Xia Da's ideal model for Chang ge was Zhou Xun though.

I read this one manga like this except the girl had to run from the kingdom and cross dress and she was a good fighter and good at war strategies
