The focal point is political intrigue, rather than just a love story and the plot is extraordinarily crafted. The main character isn’t a wimpy fuck and uniquely a hermaphrodite. The relationship only comes to fruition later, but it is bl and you do see them having intercourse. There are also major timeskips, if you’re into that.
This is one of my favorite stories of all time, not just bl if that convinces you, so please give it a go.
