I actually like the spin they gave it. I was worried in the last book, but this one has left me satisfied (at least with Mairo/Eiki pairing). I like how he made the mother the accomplice. Mostly because it was a great fuck you to her who was a really horrid woman. And also because it helped demonstrate the level Mairo is capable of working on, and that he cares for the people who care about him (Eiki and his father). I do wish there was more on the guy trying to get revenge who's name I can't recall.
