I can udnerstand why so many are upset over the mention of dark skin, considering especially the situation of the moment... Though, in East Asia, it's well known that people prefer to keep whiter skin, fair skin; they even avoid at all cost to get tan or go under the sun... Some even bring umbrella to avoid getting tan. I don't think this has to do with racism or hatred towards Black people per se, it's just a criteria of beauty, and infortunately it's not limited to East Asia.
As a Chinese person living in France where keeping a white/r skin is not such an issue, I adore getting tan during summer, for me the most important thing is to keep a good skin, and everyone should feel proud about their skin color because beauty exists everywhere and we're all individuals.
