My thoughts on the Tokyo Ghoul Ending...

(Warning: Spoilers!) Aside from the incredibly depressing ending, Tokyo Ghoul was extremely realistic, intelligent and full of beautiful art. His use of watercolor and unfinished/finished drawings seriously gave the manga it's own unique twist. Many mangaka's are the same when it comes to coloring techniques and style in general, but he adopted his own style.
I feel as though the main characters (Amon and Kaneki, specifically speaking), came to terms with their beings towards the end of the manga. Amon, though determined, could never defeat Tatara without an arm. Kaneki, unless he somehow managed to grow stronger than the Owl, had no chance of winning against Arima. We expect these main characters to have this random level up of power when their life depends on it, and though Kaneki and Amon both had theirs (Amon against the Bin Brothers, Kaneki against Nishiki), at the end of the day, Amon was an armless man against Aogiri, and Kaneki was a ghoul, against Arima. Though unexpected, their deaths were inevitable and incredibly realistic.
I think that's why it's a slap in the face for so many.

If this was adapted into a novel, it would be worth reading. I've never bought manga in my life, but I think I may want to buy this one, it'll defiantly go down in history as one of it's kind. It almost reminds me of Hellsing, as far as uniqueness and smartness goes. They were both so short, but incredibly well thought out an well written.

With that being said, I still believe that Kaneki is alive. Perhaps he's being milked of his Kagune for the rest of his life, or until he grows too weak to give anymore? And Hide's still alive (I would hope to think), and like many others have said, perhaps he'll be the new protagonist. Maybe even Amon will be a half-ghoul? I miss Seidou though, where's his love :( Hopefully, by chance, he's alive.
