Probably it follows the tradition where a person is named one thing as a child and then grows up to have another name. I've seen it in a lot of historical dramas, but I could be wrong.

@Anonymous. So, are you saying that Chapter 4 is a flashback? Because I agree with Anxo that it is disjointed and out of synch with the storyline, so unless it's a recollection of an event in the past, it makes no sense — especially plunked right in the middle of the Empress' birthday.
Chapter 4 has to be a flashback.
but rong tian says "im here to see whether the crown prince would attempt suicide again." so if an he attempted only one suicide, and when he woke up, he was feng ming, the person in ch 4.1 also has to be feng ming. that's why i don't understand. so out of story. :S
according to the novel version, that particular scene is out of order.
ch 4.1 doesn't fit in the storyline for me, but it has to be feng ming not an he. (?) when is it happening?
