YES § I hate when scumbags of this level get redemption

Redemption is something that can be absolutely beautiful when it is done well and is apropos for the character that is redeemed. It is, however, something that requires the redeemed one to truly repent and suffer from knowledge of their crimes, and go through a catharsis that they know full well they deserve. The idea, held by many sociologists and writers of bad fiction, that unrepentant rapists, sociopaths, and child molesters deserve the same ticket back to love and acceptance as someone who hates his/her crimes and lives in poverty and humility while trying to serve others (say a crooked financial advisor who works for a homeless shelter at low wage after getting out of prison), is not only disgusting, but completely ridiculous. According to Bill Nye (The Science Guy), revenge and justice are quite similar, and are pretty much mandated by evolution. If bad conduct was not punished and selfishness was regarded as a virtue, our species (and almost any other species) would die out.

Thankyou for your words of wisdom. I'm sick and tired of reading so called romance stories where an abusee falls for their abuser (using a broad term to include battery, rape, assault etc). The idea that the abused owe anything to their abuser because they "repented" or "cried" and are in "pain" frankly disgusts me. A victim deserves to be away from their abuser and not to be pressured into forgiving and living with their abuser even ''if'' (I don't believe they are capable in most cases of crimes like rape etc) in most cases the abuser turns a new leaf. Any amount of repentance and suffering on the abusers part
cannot undermine the pain the victim went through or is still going through in these cases and the romanticisation is just wrong.
