In my head I imagined that Hikaru was referring to Shima as "Sensei". It made more sense for me this way.

No offend to those who like this manga, but I didn't really like it. I feel that there was something lacking. It was hard to keep reading because of the fact that Hikaru kept cally shima sir, sir, and sir.......... I don't may be it just because of the translation.
