life was much better when people didn't know what Yaoi or manga was , I kind regret telling people about it , it attracted haters as much as it attracted other fans :/

I'm very grateful to the people who first directed me toward yaoi. Without them, I wouldn't have known about this form of romance fiction. It opened up many wonderful experiences for me and my life is better for it.

I'm especially grateful to the first yaoi mangakas. Imagine the courage it took for them to create. It's inspirational.

No way. Even if there are haters, there are more yaoi lovers as well. The more yaoi lovers there are, the greater the demand for yaoi, and mangakas will write even more yaoi for us, because $$$. Can you imagine if we went mainstream?

I have the feeling that most of the users here are here for the yaoi. Yaoi is beautiful and makes the world go round (well, my world anyway) and I've got no regrets about it.

Did you actually try telling people about it? You sure are brave; I'm afraid to even broach the subject! I don't know a single yaoi fangirl in real life. It's a little lonely.

Could not agree more. The first manga, apparently, came out in the late 1800s, but the first *yaoi* manga was published in 1976, which is relatively recent if you ask me. I bet people have been writing yaoi long before that though. People are still pretty homophobic today, so back then, it must've been a minefield for those mangakas.
