That is actually a very good theory. (⊙…⊙ )
i've always thought of this cause back when athy told felix "i want to see her too" he suggested to ask claude for some kind of memory sphere or something. and i've noticed that everytime he touches athy with an intention (like to put her to sleep or while shes asleep) her dreams are of her mother.
So I think the reason he didn’t forget athys mom was because he started showing her in athys dreams(when athy wished she could see her) . So the curse never took effect. but now that he lost his memory the curse kinda just rushed in him.!
