I thought that yuuta (the guy the nao liked) actually didnt break up with his girlfriend. He stayed his girlfriend. He said he couldnt be nao's friend anymore because then he would really break up with his girlfriend. Nao broke up with yuuta's brother so she wouldnt just be using him. The last scene where they pass each other is because they briefly remember their short affair and that they would move on with their separate lives as strangers now.
Pretty painful stories, but hey, they shouldn't even have cheated on their girl/boyfriends in the first place.
