So, does it never explain why they were GLOWING when they were hauling off the mannequin? It had sorta seemed like an important detail, then was sorta just dismissed and forgotten. Very curious.

Yeah, they left that hanging. The REAL story, the one with all the dramatic tension and fascinating weirdness and page-turning suspense, is happening off the page, out of the book, somewhere in completely other universe. Meanwhile, we get detectives with the hots for priests and other detectives, which isn't something I would normally complain about, but GLOWING PEOPLE. Because of GLOWING PEOPLE I keep expecting weird aliens to pop out of caskets suddenly, and instead we get arranged marriages and cranky stepfathers. It's like being told to expect whipped cream and being served powdered milk.

Amen, my sister. It's like a good sic-fi novel that suddenly moved into a Harlequin Romance. Glad it wasn't just me who thought that chapter disappeared when it got real fascinating.
