I personally think that they are extremely toxic with each other. When you bond with someone over shared hatreds then the only thing keeping the relationship is said hatred. They're just feeding into each other's negative mindset.
Actually, this chapter is pretty wholesome. These two went through fucked up things, but they still choose to lean on each other and try to be happy. It's so hard as a kid to overcome traumatic situations without an adult to help them and be with them. I think they're very lucky to have each other and mature enough to decide to overcome this together. That hug was the sweetest thing ever
