It was an experiment that Mephesto conducted in the future causing future Yukio to be sent into the past where he had time to kill so he had fun with Rin. Once his time was up he was sent back to his own time but Rin and Yukio's memory of him being there where wiped most likely to future Yukio traveling into the past, then back into the future.

Lol, well at the beginin future Yukio was complainin how the future Mephesto's test went wrong and sent them pack into the past, round 10 years they said. So the current Mephesto told Rin not to ask future rin or future yukio anythin so it doesnt mess up the present. When the future duplacates got sent back the present yukio and rin's memories of their future selves we're erased, but rin's blossoming feelins still remained. This probably happend since mephesto didnt want the present to be change by any way, just in case.
Sorry if it doesnt make sense. I havent read the manga since i placed the response to u, so my memory of the manga isn't up to 100%
