to be honest, it's not that serious but it's not unreasonable for the "two" semes to be "desperate" because they've been in an all boys school with clear minimal contact with the outside world for the most of their adolescent lives. everyone feels for Kaede but Kaede most definitely never really hated the situation he was in, yes he was put in an unknown environment, yes he had to step out of his comfort zone, but there is a first for everything and kaede clearly isn't a push over that needs or deserves pity. kaede also was never a second choice... in the beginning sakisaka wanted kaede but realized that he had a stronger connection to yuuki and at the same time, kuji realized that he like kaede more. Yes the manga was most fixated on the romantic development of sakisakaxyuuki BUT the manga also portrayed the mental development of kaede. kuji is clearly the "antagonist" in this story because everyone is influenced by him. If it wasn't for kuji, with sakisaka being so introverted, he wouldn't have had the initiative to come out with such a bold plan, although he agrees with kujis mindset. you also cannot blame one specific character or all the characters for the plot of the story, considering that kaede was the one who "made the first move" lol
