Can anyone give me some recommendations for some light-hearted boys love? I would prefer something with slightly realistic relationships, but I'm not too picky.

-No. 6 is the first thing that comes to mind but it is not focused on the relationship between the two boys. I WARN YOU DO NOT WATCH THE ANIME.... thnx (=・ω・=)

How about Doukyuusei (and its sequels; timeline is Doukyuusei - Sotsugyousei - Sora to Hara - Occupation to Beloved - Graduation Certificate), Senpai (Bikke), Seven Days or Mizu no Haru? I think those are sweet and at least slightly realistic in showing that you usually have/want to get to know the other person first before starting a relationship.
If you are more into shorter stories with nice flow and great art then you could try Fujunna Renai, Tsumasaki ni Kourozu or Cello Mellow^^

My friend said that he watched it and told me a bit about it, and after reading the manga and listening to his response, the anime sounds pretty bad ... or at least worse than the manga. I might still watch it to see if his opinion is accurate.

I actually saw the anime first, and I liked it, but I do think the manga is better. However, not everyone can have the manga's end, so the anime is a good alternative. The novel is amazing too

I haven't reached the end of the mangas, but I did watch the anime first and I personally loved it. :)
