The emperor and his concubine being all shameless out in the open reminds me of the previous king of Spain and his mistress. He, his queen, and the mistress would attend events together and the mistress and queen would be seated together too.
A gossip article asked if the queen and mistress got along and I remember commentators saying, "the queen can't do anything about it, she just smiles and endures."
This is legit the same situation. The only difference is that the mistress never had any kids with the king, I think.
