Many of you don’t understand Chika’s character at all and it shows. First of all, he’s not a slut. He only slept with that one black haired girl who’s three years older than him. I’m not saying him sleeping with her was right but it wasn’t wrong either. Second the reason he never had the courage to confess was because he knew Azuki would never see him as a love interest. They have known each other since they were little kids. If she didn’t already see him as a love interest by now it was highly unlikely she would see him as a love interest going forward. Another reason he didn’t confess to Azuki was because he’s a child who’s parents divorced when he was still very young. It is because of that very reason he thinks if you’re in a romantic relationship, for whatever reason when it stops working out down the line, you split up forever and you’re no longer in each other’s lives. He loves her and wants to continue staying in her life forever . Even if Azuki did reciprocate his feelings he thought that when something goes wrong Chika won’t be able to stay with her anymore. He loves her too much to be able to bear with that so he decided it’s better if he remained friends with her while he supports her in every aspect of life. He just lacked courage and resolve that’s all. Also when Hiragi came and Chika saw Azuki taking an interest in him his resolved weakened and it hurt him a lot. Things are easier said than done. Even when he wanted to remain friends with her, Hiragi’s presence and his sincerity towards his feelings stirred something within Chika. He also wanted to have that courage and sincerity which Hiragi had. The black haired girl also motivated him. You may say Chika having feelings for Azuki and even then sleeping with another women is wrong but you can’t deny that woman helped him in a lot of ways and made him realise things he never would’ve realised otherwise or on time. She became his support. Someone he could talk honestly to. Someone who provided him with mental and physical support. He couldn’t do that with Azuki at the time because of his own fears. The black haired girl was there for him. He’s a teenager and teenager are known for not always making the best decisions. Also not everything in life is idealistic. He had feelings for Azuki since he was young but had already given up long ago. He kept bottling up his feelings and at times it would become too much for him to bear. This was his way of kind of releasing that stress, anxiety and sadness. Not the best way I know, but it wasn’t wrong of him either because he’s single and even if Azuki knew he was sleeping with someone at the time she wouldn’t have thought much of it. That’s just how she is. Him meeting the black haired girl overall wasn’t a mistake because again she gave him the courage to move forward, face his feelings head on and stop running away. Chika is a very realistic character in my opinion and I’m happy he ends up with Azuki because he really does love her. He was ready to give up on his childhood love to she Azuki and Hiragi together and that to me is love in its purest form. You ignore your own happiness for the happiness of the person you love the most. Such selfless love.
