I won't be dismissing his feelings but it looks to me like older bro has some mental health issue. What with feeling unbelonging in his family and having no purpose in life other than paying off "debt". And instead of getting therapy so he can be a strong independent man he got told by younger bro to "make him his purpose". I personally don't think living for someone else is healthy, at least not when your mental state looks unstable. That's prime spawning ground for exploitation, especially considering younger bro's criminal record. My two cent: older bro needs to get therapy, be able to live for himself, then he can date or dump younger bro for all I care.
