It’s not rlly shown in the novel, but the Emperor is REALLY slow. I think they fell out of love when they were teenagers but then were forced into a political marriage so idrk ;/

From what I see, the emperor wants to make Navier jealous with Rashta and likes her... but how tf did je go from "i love her but i feel like she doesn't love me" to i will make a child with a dumbster fire so my wife realises she loves me?! You have to be a special kind of dumbass to not even tell your wife you love her and want her to treat you special all while you can't do the same.
The author really did well to put the divorce in the Prologue because everything is so infuriating I would have dropped the serie had I not already known Navier would marry someone else.
