He can tell them apart but he's not thinking about it cuz it's more along the lines of an "It can't be that" conclusion. Like when you're trying to find something you lost but don't search in a certain place cuz you're like "I didn't go there, it can't be there" and never check that area. Like it's highly unlikely a noble would have a perfect copy of them same age and everything living somewhere especially if said noble has features not common to the rest of the continent. So he's like "I feel like they're different, but they can't be because that's like a .001 percent thing"
