Has anyone else notice this?

Idk if it’s just me but I’ve realized that in a lot of comics with minor antagonist or little bad guys are always portrayed fat/tan/ugly. (if there’s a strong major antagonist, they’re usually hot lol)

Even in mangas not action centric but romance centric, if there’s a pervert, he’s always fat/dark/ugly. Everyone else is drawn pale and skinner though, even background characters..

I’m not saying fat and tan are ugly but they do not fit the standards of beauty in Asia (where most mangas are from). They’re actually exact opposites of the standard of beauty from asia which is skinny and pale.

it just really throws me off because it’s subconsciously projecting the message that most bad people look like this. There’s only a few comics that tried to go against this which is Lookism.

Idk maybe I’m overthinking but I’ve been reading mangas for a long time and it’s something that I’ve repeatedly been noticing.

Anyways I feel like there should just be representation of people who aren’t the asian beauty standard. They shouldn’t always be used as the bad guys.
