Pills are sus AF, to me it's obvious they are blocking her power and maybe even keeping her physically weak. When she wasn't taking them it was probably withdrawal symptoms or her power coming back and all... Idk why the temple is doing that, maybe they want to have "one true saintess" under their control and the rarity of her power would make it more valuable? That's my best guess
