I think he was referring to the fact that flame just willy nilly conquered all the floors knowing that the bosses were once human. Not that he was experiencing the memories as well.
The sword guy mentioned how the fact that bosses were once human becomes more apparent the higher you go

It wasn't in chapter 15/16 so i found the skil discretion in chapter 3 it says that dying at a high rang causes penalties, so flame Empore got them too
