It was basically like being slapped in the face a second time for him, like the different levels they were on was being shoved in his face and he was forced to swallow that after the shock he just went through of being hit.
Also in a culture were saving face and honor are very huge things even more so for men, it was a large insult, not to mention the feelings that he has unware of them or not, to be treated like that of someone he thinks a "friend", yanking back and froth between trying to be nice and badly, his expression towards the gift was saying it all to that interaction, its poison to their relationship, and nothing will grow there that is positive or healthy, not until they work out the issues at least.
I said the same thing. I dont just understand a poverty complex.... I would’ve taken his wallet for hitting me like that. TUH
I mean he just told the guy that he was intimidated by his wealth, and then he was slapped, taking the money would also hurt his pride. Also! From his pov the guy seems really manipulative. What if he says “I gave you money so...” he doesn’t trust him. That being said- I WOULDVE TAKEN THE BAG AND RAN

Sorry but why did the guy slapped away the taxi fare money? I feel like it's totally fine to accept like $5? no? I mean, a travel fee =/= compensation.
